St Albans was an important settlement before the Romans but the area flourished from AD50 to AD440 as Verulamium, one of the largest towns in Roman Britain. Our visit includes the Verulamium Museum of everyday life in Roman Britain and we shall have a guided tour of all the major Roman sites of the town including the best-preserved Roman theatre in Britain and the hypocaust.

Travel: First Capital Connect trains (formerly Thameslink) provide a frequent service from
London
to
St Albans
. A bus (Route 300) leaves St Albans Station at 46 minutes past the hour and stops at St Michaels village near the Museum. The bus ride is 14 minutes. There is also a shuttle train from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey Station which is closer to the Museum.
