Prerequisites: A series of four, two-hour workshops designed to assist you with the process of choosing, planning, researching and writing the Independent Essay. Each of the workshop sessions is dedicated to proving practical advice and guidance for each of the stages of the Independent Essay.
All Workshops are from 7pm to 9pm (arrive by 6.45 if possible)

1: CHOOSING

Choosing a viable subject/topic/issue/artefact(s) taking into account the implications for researching and writing of the Independent Essay in the light of the course requirements for the ECA

2: PLANNING

Identifying research resources, strategies, and access to the chosen artefact. Constructing the question/argument/approaches and finalising the Independent Essay pro-forma prior to submission

3: RESEARCHING
Monday 7th July 2008

Using different types of research processes, and research methodology. Primary and secondary sources. Conducting the visual analysis of the chosen artefact/s. Record keeping, referencing, and bibliographies

4: WRITING
Monday 14th July 2008

Presentation requirements for the Independent Essay: referencing, bibliography, appendix, illustrations. Writing: structuring the argument, using the visual analysis evidence, using the primary and secondary textual sources, and reaching a conclusion
